This part of my website is all about a young boy that I help called Jack McNaughton.
Jack is a young boy with Cerebral Palsy, last year Jack went to America and had a life changing operation called a Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy (SDR).
Since the operation jack has improved his walking, but this is not something as simple as have the operation and that’s the magic cure!
The operation simply allows Jack the ability to walk by allowing the muscles to listen to the brain. The operation is simply the start of a very long and hard Journey that jack will be on for his entire life, Jack his Mum Stacy, Graham his dad and all Jacks support network all have to work very hard to build muscle, strength and motor control and allow jack to walk unaided. Now this is something that as an adult we would find hard , but imagine doing this as a 3 yo, changes things a little doesn’t it ?
Having no option but to do painful stretches working hard to train the body to walk and having to build muscle that is painful and really not much fun. Not your normal 3 Year Old boy, but he does it and with very little complaining, to be honest some of my adult Personal Training clients complain more, YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE :) .
Hopefully in the not so distant future Jack will be like every other young boy out their and playing football, running, climbing trees and anything and everything else that he so desires.
Follow jacks story and how we are working with him to get jack to walk and fulfil this very special young boys potential.
Check out his blog on here to follow the story and watch him progress through his Journey.
